Please send all submissions to retroai@gmail.com - if they are sent to my personal e-mail, whether or not it's my @cox.net addy or the @retroai.org one, there's a chance I won't get them. Sending to Gmail is pretty mush a 100% guarantee that I will get them. My personal addresses (especially the @cox.net one) get so much traffic as it is, that if you send a schedule to it, I my accidentally delete it. Nothing gets deleted from the Gmail add but spam.
Also, formatting of submissions. I've been lax on this one...please do not send in raw data. Send the submissions as a .zip file with the necessary "Aircraft.txt", "Airports.txt", and "Flightplans.txt" configured for Traffic Tools as well as any readmes you may wish to include. I also ask that they be tested and functional (even though planes may be missing) before sending them to us. This really reduces turnaround on posting them. I don't have the time to test all files submitted, so I trust this has been done before submission. Even though some of you submitting packages are not full-fledged members of the team (a few will be offered invites soon), you're still a very import part of our work. So, what you can do to help us out, helps us all...thanks!

Kris,
I wonder if you could consider listing a posting date in the table for each new submission from now on. My problem is that it is often weeks or months in between having the time to install new flightplans and by that time you may have added several different rounds of submissions. While the most recent submissions are highlighted, previous rounds of submissions are not. The result is that it's hard for me to tell what I have already installed and what I haven't. If there were a date by each submission, I could tell at a glance that it was added after the last time I installed FPs.

Andy I have been considering doing something more to highlight added files, and that's a great suggestion. Of course, it will have to be from now on, as I have no idea when many of those plans were submitted since many came before I took over. I'll modify the page templates and see if it works or not - the table format is size-limited, but I think if I modified the "author" part to list both the author and date of addition, it should work - especially since there is no listed author for those files done by RAI members.

Yes, of course, I mean form now on. A simple posting date for each new file would sove the problem for me. Andy I'll give it a test run with the new update - I have a whale of a one coming. Not only everything that's been posted here, but Tim Dix was kind enough to send us all his 1967-era UK AI packages that are also available via the Classic British FS site. The difference is the "Retro AI Version" is broken down by airline so users can pick and choose by airline. Many cheers to Tim on that one! That will mean a considerable amount of work there getting it all "coded and loaded" for the site, since the 1960's pages have yet to receive the new format. What I may do, upon thinking about it, is simply use date numbers, rather than spell out the dates. I personally like the way the latter looks, but it does eat up space, where just numbering is eight characters. It's a good idea - so obvious, but sometimes a second pair of eyes is needed to see it - so I thank you much for doing so. The only big question now is using the European date format or the American? personally, I've been using the European as of late - the European comes more naturally because of my early education in English-run schools in Germany. (When I came back to the States, I was constantly being marked off by vocabulary teachers for throwing in all those extra "u"s and changing up words like "center" to "centre"...) I had to go back and change some to the American format when I put up the old "update" page - which was a pain to keep up and a lot of, IMO, duplication. If I'm spending money on webspace, I want most of it going to files, not pages - clean, simple, streamlined was Marc's intention, and I try to keep with that spirit. In-and-out shopping like a convenience store (or cornershop for the Brits) - not a lot of hunting for what you want. I think the European format is more universal, so I'm leaning towards it - anyone else have any ideas, feel free to let me know.

The date format is a tough call. European style is more universal and is also used by the US military. On the other hand, I believe there are more Americans using this site than Europeans. I think I would vote for European style even though I am American. I'm really looking forward to the updates!!! Andy

ahem... just as a reminder, there are quite a few people who use the "European style" here in the Americas

ahem... just as a reminder, there are quite a few people who use the "European style" here in the Americas Well, I said "American", since even though Canada uses the European style - most people think of the U.S. when you say "American", even though that's technically incorrect. And besides, I thought "Bastardized Yankee Version" would have caused more objections.

No offense to you Canadians. I used to avoid describing myself as an "American" for that very reason, as it seemed an affront to Canadians and Latin Americans. However, since I have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit in England recently I have found that Brits constantly refer to the US as "America," so I was most naturally to them an "American." I stopped fighting it and now simply say that I am "from America." Since some "United Statians" use the European style and virtually the rest of the world uses European style, I suggest we go that way. Andy

Never been to Montreal but I want to go. I've been to Toronto - well, Pearson Airport. Never saw anything of the city.

sheesh... I don't get no respect no more .... It's all part of a global pattern, really: First hockey, then Beckham and Posh... What's next? Other great Canadian sports like basketball, baseball, US-rules football? Toronto? Like Groucho used to say: "Take my wife. Please." - What are we doing tonight, Brain? - The same thing we do every night, Pinky: Try to take over the world! btw: afaik, English-speaking Canada also uses mm/dd/yy (OMG - it's started already!!!! )

I think, seriously, it's all about the cash in those cases. The Nordiques make more money in Denver, the Jets in Phoenix, etc. That's really what was behind Peter the Puck insulting Canada by trading Gretzky to Los Angeles - at that time, the most consistently horrible team in the league. I could care less about the Beckhams - the media hype is just too much. She's a very mediocre singer and he's a player in his declining years...can't blame them for coming here and reaping the rewards of a team owner willing to fork over all that money, but I could care less about them. The Beckham frenzy has even reached here - my mom had her hair cut just like Posh...I rolled my eyes at it. Now who again was the star of the Blue Jays' first World Series win? Yep, Oklahoma City native Joe Carter. But the Expos? Sorry, that's a team that manages to be awful no matter where they're located. The Washington Nationals are but a footnote. Oh, and despite being from Oklahoma, I actually hate "football", especially the Dallas Cowboys. So, I won't go there beyond tweaking a few people here and there when SOONER NATION is in town. Basketball? Are the Raptors still in the NBA? I'm joking, of course, and all of that still goes back to money - "good" teams pay, regardless of where they are. I think Canada is secretly plotting to take over the world - you guys are just too nice to not be hiding something... ;D I always thought it did.

Never been to Montreal but I want to go. I've been to Toronto - well, Pearson Airport. Never saw anything of the city. Do take that trip to Montreal. I found it to be a very beautiful city. I also traveled to Quebec City and along the St. Lawrence out to the end of the Gaspé Peninsula at Percé where it is very picturesque. While the rest of Canada may be bilingual, Quebec is not. It is 100% francophone as far as road signs and anything not dealing with tourists. Fortunately, then I could read French rather well and could speak it intelligibly, though understanding spoken French was a difficult challenge. However, I always found it easier to understand French Canadian than Parisian French. French Canadians seem to speak more slowly. I found that I was treated marvelously, contrary to all rumors I had heard about the way French Canadians treat anglo speakers. Maybe it's because I made an effort to communicate in their native language. I've found that goes a long way. Andy

I am asked everyday what part of Canada I was born in. I used to say Hydro, when talking about electricity, or Al-U-MINI-UM for foil. First beer I ever had was Molsons. You know I love hockey, and Red Green is my Hero. The Air Force spent 3 days trying to send me to the Canadian Air Force, then I was sent to a base with a large Canadian NORAD Squadron, so I would feel closer to home. Funny thing is I never set foot over the border until I was 25, even then the Customs Guy at the border North of Bellingham WA, on the way to Vancouver, said Welcome Home... Of course the major amount of TV I watched as kid was the CBC from Port William /Port Arthur now called Thunder Bay. Now the rest of Ya Hosers Fly-Off Eh! ;D

Despite the fact Im not a big fan of Europe (even though im from it - for now at least) I find that the date format makes more sense since its in order of the duration of the time period (don't know how anyone thought puting the month first would be better!)
I have gotten into the habit lately of refering to Canada and the US as North America (though that should mean Mexico too). I love both places, though my Canadian experience extends to knowing pretty much the whole of Southern Ontario very well. I had a French Canadian French teacher once, though not for very long. She managed to confuse the entire class by pronouncing half the words completely different and telling us we were wrong. Hence i'd be afraid to try my linguistic ability in Quebec.
As far as my accent goes, I try to constantly refine any Northern Irish out of it, meaning so far ive been asked if im American or Canadian or even Australian!
