Dropping in to say 'hi'. I have been occupied lately with traveling to tennis tournaments & Indycar races, and dealing with computer spyware problems, but I do have a nice early 1970's Piedmont 737-200 AI livery (i.e., the "old" scheme) for the Aardvark 737-200 if anyone wants it. If there's any interest, I'll post it at AVSIM.

I have Piedmont 1976 just about coded and the aircraft used was the 737-200 and the YS-11. I have not looked to see what scheme they used then so your repaint might be just what I need. I'll have to check on that. Paul

Hi Paul, Well, I looked at Airliners.net. Like all changes in livery, it didn't happen overnight with all planes. It does look like some of the 737's were still in the old livery in early '76, however: www.airliners.net/open.file/0658502/M/I will upload this tonight at Avsim after work. Great to hear that you've got a 70's Piedmont going!

I'm fixing the YS-11 now. Lotsa strange little airports in this one!! ;D Paul

Lotsa strange little airports in this one!! ;D Paul I was going to suggest having both liveries, but didn't know how complicated that would be to do, but yes, that is a good idea. Piedmont grew to be a national airline after deregulation, but it always maintained a high conccentration of routes in the Appalachian region of the US, even afterward. But yes, they flew into many hole-in-the-wall spots. My family used to fly from Florida to Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia every year when I was small, and from Atlanta to those spots just about the only airline that flew in those days was Piedmont, so I remember them well. I always like flying Piedmont because the stewardesses always gave me wings or playing cards. I must have collected a dozen sets of Piedmont wings when I was a kid.

Anyone know when the "Airlines" portion was removed from the titles? I'm guessing early 1970's, as I can't find any photos of the jets dated after roughly 1973 that have the full titling.

Anyone know when the "Airlines" portion was removed from the titles? I'm not 100% sure about the titles but I do know that all dignity was removed when they merged into USAir Post the question in the forum here and someone WILL know the answer. www.jetpiedmont.com/Phorum5/I could've sworn I did the 727-100 for my flight plans but looking on AVSIM now I only see the -200. If someone wants my original PSD file to do the Aardvark late -100 let me know. Woops...nevermind...I DID do it but for some reason I never uploaded it with the others. See, I'm not going crazy. Huh?! What's that? Yes mother...... Download the 727-100 final livery for the AIA model hereFor us it was Myrtle Beach. The ONLY way to get there by air at the time. ;D If you're bored plane spotting one day try a couple of these trips from 1984: Flight 222 (Chicago to New Orleans... the hard way): 9:15 AM KORD-KGSO-KILM-KMYR-KCLT-KMSY 16:10 PM Did the first portion of that one a few times in real life. Now those were the days. or how about these: Flight 228: 11:40 AM KDAB-KJAX-KCLT-KTRI-KLEX-KORD 16:15 PM Flight 364: 13:45 PM KORD-KCRW-KDCA-KGSO-KCLT-KJAX 21:28 PM Flight 371: 08:40 AM KLGA-KCHO-KROA-KCLT-KBNA-KMEM 13:30 PM BTW, an excellent book: www.jetpiedmont.com/pahs/?page=2I read it cover to cover. Well worth the price. Brought a tear to my eye reading the chapter on the merger and how they just erased the pacemaker names from the planes overnight. Hurray for guys like Tom Davis. They sure don't make airlines like they used to anymore. Another book is on it's way but I don't think it's connected with the PAHS in any way.

USAir = Unfortunately Still Allegheny In Reality In the summer of '84, I had just completed 8th Grade and went on a school-sponsored trip to Washington, DC. We stayed at the old Twin Bridges Marriott, just across the Potomac from the city. It had a spectacular view of the flight path into National as it came down the river, past Arlington and then the hotel. That was planespotting at it's best - Piedmont, New York Air...all these airlines I'd never seen before. I was such a dork - all my friends were hot-tubbing it with girls and I'm hanging out on the balcony watching planes!
