I still think AeroPeru saw PSA's "shocking pink" scheme was a good idea to modify and make more garish. kind of like TransBrasil. Either that, or their marketing department was sampling too many of the local "exports"... At any rate, I actually like the scheme, only in the 1970's could you have gotten away with that, and all that color of the decade is so much better than today's "white whales" and other hideousness. The best thing about the Delta-Northwest merger is that it will put that horrible "NWA" scheme to a merciful end. Not that Delta is much better, but it is less painful - kind of like hitting a brick wall at 60 as opposed to 90. But you know, combing NWA's silver fuselage with Delta's tail scheme would not look too bad, except I think I've seen it before...on Aeroflot! It's really scary when one of the best modern schemes is on an airline whose name conjures up images of well, Aeroflot. I still maintain if there were any justice in the world, Landor Associates would be stripped of all assets and its "designers" sent away to paint Humvees headed to Iraq since they seem to be really good with using only one color - but I'm not sure if they can handle that sand color, that might be too much actual color for them...

I promise, I really don't have a big issue with Landor Associates or the other advertising companies that airlines pay millions to every few years to get a new all-white plane. In reality, I'm jealous that I didn't think of it first - I'd be making billions by charging cash-strapped airlines the world over for a big, white, plane and some kind of logo splashed somewhere, maybe a title or two.... Airline marketers are genius - don't give people any service, cram more seats in the big, white, plane and then say how wonderful your "new approach" is. Oh yeah, and then explain your cutbacks in already crappy service as the result of your airline's commitment to our new world, even though you were barely afloat seven years ago yesterday... Talk about the proverbial Emperor with no clothes... Look at United - a pretty decent scheme, IMo with the grey and blue, those subtle cheatlines of orange and red. Oh, but they had to go get a whole new marketing scheme to make them a whole new airline. What did the passengers get? A BIG, WHITE, PLANE and more cutbacks in service! I used to laugh at American Airlines passengers out of OKC that looked down on those of us flying Southwest. Tell me, for that extra $100 per ticket to Dallas, what did you get? 1/4 a soda and a bag of peanuts? Really? Guess what I got? The same thing, and I made it to the hotel in time for the free food and drinks because I didn't have to deal with DFW. Oh, yeah, you got an assigned seat...woohoo! The last time I had an assigned seat on American it was between two fat guys who apparently thought Marlboro Reds and Johnnie Walker were a good stand-in for Old Spice. At least on Southwest, I never have more than one person beside me, as if I know I may run late, I pay the extra $25 and bump myself up to Business Select and get priority boarding. I have yet to see a Southwest flight where any more than 10 of the first 30 positions reserved for Business select and Business are taken up. Had a bulkhead window seat all the way from Midway to OKC. And I still paid less than standby on an American or United RJ... I wish "Airways" would hire me, I could rant for hours on every bloody idiocy of the airline industry. Don't even get me started on the ludicrous Southwest wannabe failures like Song, Metrojet, Ted, Sam, Dick, Harry, Sal, UPS Airlines... That last one was ultra-brilliance - "Hey people are used to flying like cargo, let's put them on cargo planes!!!" I'm just waiting for the day when the industry consolidates and they start painting the big, grey, dog on the side - if they can afford any grey paint after all the money wasted on the white... Things are no better in the Great White North - trust me, when people start referring to the national airline as "Mapleflot", it is neither an act of patriotism nor a compliment.

In my humble opinion,Delta's Widget was by far the best.DC 8's always look good. Oh yes! Return of the Widget! That was a simple, yet effective scheme, you saw it and immediately knew it was Delta - not like today where you have to look hard at the titles to know.
