The recent posting of pornographic spam has forced me into restricting who can post to registered members only. While this may seem like a given to many of you, there is a reason this and other boards allow anonymous posting, and that's because some people do not want to make their e-mail known to a server out of fear it could be harvested and sold to advertisers. I understand that concern, but unfortunately, a few jerks who have taken upon themselves to post their vile sleaze without permission have caused this condition to occur.
Personally, I have no problem with adult sites - they should be there if you want to view them. But that's the point - IF YOU WANT TO VIEW THEM - spamming, particularly with graphic images, forces it upon those who may have no interest in what's posted. If I want to see that junk, I know where to find it - and this board isn't where.

I assume someone could get a throwaway yahoo (etc.) email account and use that?

Yeah, but 99.9% of forum spamming is done with 'bots that auto-post anonymously. Not too many people will take the time to register for a forum just so they can spam it.

Glad you were able to get the stuff removed. If people want to view that stuff, thats their own business, just don't force it on us.

Hi Kris, What I meant was people who are afraid to expose their email address (the people you mentioned in your original post for the reason for anonymous posting) could instead get throwaway email accounts, use that to register, and then ignore the account from then on. Right? That way they could still be a part of the family.

Oh, my bad - yes, and there is always the option in the registration to not show your e-mail. The change only means you have to be a registered member of the forum in order to post - what e-mail you use to sign up is irrelevant
