How much are there still FS2004 users? Not just here but in general if you know from friends or others...

Still a FS9 die-hard here. Spent way too much time and $$$ to give it up. Once I get a new gaming rig, I’ll probably trade up to P3D.

Fs9 user here.
For me the last true simulation in flightsim.

Still using FS9 for flightplans well into the 2000. For 2010 onwards I use FSX, but slowly it gets to old, too. For example I don't find ZBAD afcad/scenery or Korean Air 787X ai paint.

FS9. I'll be getting a new rig in a short while, then I'll upgrade to something else; probably MSFS 2024.

My daily driver is still FS2004, with a whole host of custom modifications I've made on my own. Modified ground friction in the SIM1.dll, my own custom sky, cloud, weather, effects, water, etc. I'm developing a 747 classic for FS2004 as well, which you can follow over at the FSDeveloper forums in the Showroom section. In short, FS2004 isn't going anywhere for me any time soon.

Despite having a rug to run P3D and FS2020, FS2004 forever still has a lot to give.

Thank you, but in this case I was talking of FSX.

Only used FSX a few months before going to FS9, where I stayed until P3Dv3. So from 2003-2016 or so, had a 13 year run with FS9. The graphics are the tangible thing people think they're missing with MSFS, but its really the performance. The script of FS9, FSX, and even P3D make loading real numbers of AI traffic quite impossible in some settings if you want acceptable FPS. My PC with similar specs would still be a slideshow at LHR or something with real life volumes of AI traffic even with the autogen and other scenery settings down. Just too many objects and it can't cope. In MSFS, it does a great job of getting everything loaded for great FPS with just little stutters for now as it starts to build what you're trying to look at next in the most object dense areas. I actually had WORSE performance with every sim I've ever owned in the MSFS and P3D series than FS2020, despite the amazing graphics and flight dynamics. Its for that reason I can't go back more than the visuals, plus the AI (while stupid during takeoff and landing still) actually behaves very realistically on the ground even doing flight control checks after push and stuff while being met with realistic GSE and stuff and the bridges (usually) auto connecting and stuff. P3D was cost-prohibitive, but if you get the steam version of MSFS, it'll run OK on even modest PCs at lower settings. I don't use the steam version though. Still a FS9 die-hard here. Spent way too much time and $$$ to give it up. Once I get a new gaming rig, I’ll probably trade up to P3D. P3D is a harder transition than MSFS from FS9, as FSX AI models and textures will work in MSFS but P3D you need to convert both the models and the textures for your whole fleet. Assuming the AI traffic is all working as it should by the time you switch anyway in MSFS. Plus I bet you'll get better FPS in MSFS with all your goodies. Plus wait until you find out all the scenery and livery installs are just drag and drop LOL.

P3D is a harder transition than MSFS from FS9 Maybe I am just starting to have my first 'senior moments' with flight sims, but last I had heard it was nigh-on impossible to get existing FS2004/FSX/P3D AI traffic working in MSFS and I find the folder structure of the new sim to be confusing, I can't seem to ever figure out exactly where to drag and drop stuff... I have the steam version of MSFS and if the AI traffic could get ported into the new sim, I think I'd be almost instantly all over it now that there is a good swath of pretty decent add-ons available in MSFS. Have I missed something or are my needs too hyper-specific at this stage?

AIG has some fancy doohickies and gizmos for MSFS. I haven't really looked at them, but when I get MSFS on my new rig, I'll research that stuff. I'll figure it out...eventually. I remember adding traffic to FS9 for the first time was quite the experience. I'm up for a new challenge.

I've got a care package for any RAI contributor who goes FS2024 (comes out soon so might as well wait). The vast majority of models are converted, sadly no DC-10s (technically Asobo's own AI DC-10 is around to be painted, but it's one MD-10-30 model only) or L-1011s tho still.
