These are the closest flight plans to my setup's date (1967) by a long chalk, so they are extremely useful. I hope this doesn't seem rude, but as far as I can establish TAME never operated that many DC-6s. I think they may have had a DC-3 or maybe two still active in 1970, plus some L-188 Electras. In particular, the flights serving SEMA could not have been flown by DC-6s because in FS the runway is only shown as 3281 feet long (Google Earth confirms) - even a DC-4 needs 4000 feet so a DC-6 would stand no chance! So I think trips 1 and 7 in your list must be DC-3 operated (maybe a shuffle round could cover them with one aircraft), and perhaps a couple of others would be by Electra.

Hey John,

I think you have two interesting points here, namely the # of aircraft and the fleet composition.

Let's tackle that one first. According to REG Davies' Airlines of Latin America, TAME didn't get Electras before 1974, so those are out. The other, closer type operated by TAME was the HS748, but they were not delivered before October '70. We're left with DC-6s and DC-3s. The problem with DC-3s is that TAME shared their fleet with the military, and the Threes are far more likely to be used by the Air Force on a regular basis than the Sixes. That's why I went for an all-DC-6 fleet. Of course, you're always free to alter/adapt.
Now for the # of aircraft... Fleet usage is governed of course by the schedule, but also by crew availability, aircraft maintenance, charters and non-sched, etc... Re-creating flight schedules from just the timetable is always going to deviate from the historical reality. How bad will it be? Well, the tools we use follow the same general algorithm: pick a segment and try to find another one that connects to it; repeat until either one week has elapsed or you' cv et run out of segments. If you've still got segments left, create another aircraft and continue until you're done. The only thing that guarantees is assigning all segments (and again, not always). What happens when you make a bad choice in picking your segments? Too many/too few planes probably. The algorithm is optimized for timetable completion, and not for fleet maximization. In real life, you have people whose full-time job is adjusting schedules on the fly (at least, in those days). That is also why I never try to put actual reg# in my flight plans.

Thanks, Christan, yes you are quite right about the Electras of course, it looks like I misread a date there. And I ruled out the 748s as even more out of scope - 1976 according to my references. I really wasn't faulting your flight plans, just providing supplementary information.

It seems that some aircraft bore both TAME civilian and TAE military registrations, so I suspect numbers were balanced as and when required. I'm pretty sure some of their flights would have been DC-3 though, owing to the runway sizes.

But what you have supplied is brilliant, for my 1967 OAG timetable does not show TAME flights at all.
