Those with keen eyes may see my little ramblings about the historic ATA L-1011 service between Orlando and several destinations in the UK. I've decided that this is a suitable subforum to organize my madness and create a more formal place in which you guys can contribute to this side-project if you stumble upon any related information. I found a very crucial source to the 2001 flights in the Orlando Sanford webpage dated of the same year, and it's given me a small boost of motivation to continue digging on this subject, providing me with exact dates and flight numbers. Though, I cannot be certain that the flight numbers apply outside of the year, they are only mildly consistent.
What I know:
American Trans Air has operated flights between the UK and Orlando as early as 1991. These flights were charters, and not scheduled flights by ATA. The earliest known name I tentatively label as responsible is Laker Vacations, chartering until around 1997, when a TransAtlantic Vacations took over until possibly 1999. TransAtlantic Vacations' parent company was the Really Great Holiday Company. Travel City Direct was the charter company responsible for the charters from at least 2001 (possibly 2000) up until they swapped to Air Atlanta in 2002. These flights operated out of several cities in the UK, including Edinburgh, Belfast, Prestwick, Manchester, and London (LGW). Flights concerning Edinburgh, Prestwick, and Belfast were not often start and end points for routes. (e.g, flight departs from Manchester and returns to Edinburgh, with some exceptions) These flights made stopovers in Gander, and in some circumstances, Bangor. The frequency of the Bangor stopover is uncertain. Equipment on these flights is supported to be the L-1011-385, as proven by historical photographs from around the internet. Flights were made to the MCO airport until they swapped to SFB in 2001, and flights of that year may have only been conducted between May and November.
AMT8733 departed from Gander on June 3, 2001 at 4:19 PM NDT.
N190AT operated AMT8733 on August 28, 2001.
As mentioned in my little intro, I am cataloging as much flight information I can for the 2001 SFB operations.
What I don't know:
There is an unfortunately low amount of information regarding route details for the MCO operation prior to 2001. Most if not all of the information I have found comes from word of mouth on sparse forums online. While the Sanford archive has a tremendous amount of information, It lacks departure times for the inbounds out of the UK, as well as the stopover arrival/departure times. I also cannot find registration data for these aircraft. I've tried scraping archives of the Manchester, Gatwick, Edinburgh, and Orlando (MCO) airports for potential flight information from the years, but it proved unproductive. I cannot find a website for Laker Vacations or TransAtlantic Vacations, which may prove useful if they do exist.
If you guys with a bit more experience in this spelunking of airline information have any suggestions on where to look, I would love to hear your ideas. I'd love to bring this niche side of ATA's history into the sim.
