This airline started back in the 1980's flying inter-island PAX flights out in Hawaii with YS-11's and F-28's. They even leased an Arrow 707 to fly to some Southern Pacific destinations. The competition got tough in the late-80's, with Aloha and Hawaiian getting up Mid-Pacific's nose. Mid-Pacific decided to move the whole show to the Western US in 1988. A new business model was tried - Flying low-cost flights to various Californian hot-spots. By this time, the F-28's were retired and several different liveries were explored. By the 1990's, however, this new business model was a losing battle.
They changed models again and moved the base of operations again... This time, they were going to get into freight-doggin' and do so out of the mid-western US. KLAF became their operational hub/maintenance base. MPAC started flying for the likes of Zantop, ActiveAero, various other charter brokers/customers, and even picked up contracts from the USPS and from the European shipping company TNT. TNT was expanding its service into the US around this time and needed chartered lift to keep their rather large (mostly trucking) network as competitive as possible. This is also around the same time a BAe-146-300F was leased by MPAC - convenient, considering it's TNT's plane of choice for their European air cargo operations.
Sadly an accident involving a YS-11 and a very competitive market sealed the fate for MPAC. The high-frequency flying also had taken its toll on most of the YS-11 fleet. Many spares could be seen at their base in KLAF. They returned the leased BAe in 1992, only after about a month of operations. They shut up shop and finally surrendered their certificate in 1995.
These flightplans below are based on what I've heard on various FaceTube/YouBook forum groups/posts, various photos I found online, and with a rather neat network map of TNT's US operations around this time. Here is the link: www.freightwaves.com/news/freightwaves-haul-of-fame:-tnt-red-star-express.
The TNT operation was based out of JFK. An Evergreen DC-8 Super 70 had the service covered b/w EBLG and KJFK. From JFK, several carriers would haul TNT cargo to various destinations across North America. Grand Aire (then later JetAll) flew a Metro to and from various cities, including several in Canada. MPAC served other various cities farther afoot, ones too far for the little Metro. The BAe-146 handled a route b/w the US and Bermuda. I also remember seeing pics of the jet in MKE. 1x YS-11 also flew for TNT out of JFK. This a/c visits hot-spots along TNT's network over several states. 2x YS-11's were chartered by the US Postal Service. These aircraft were based out of the IND sort, flying almost every night along with the leased Ryan Int'l, Emery, & ExpressOne a/c also used by the USPS. N110PH made into the full livery while N112MP had an abbreviated livery. The other YS-11's are on various industry charters, flying for the likes of Zantop, John Deere, Ford, ActiveAero, and the like. These aircraft with pop up in the various charter outfit hubs like LRD, ELP, YIP, and so on. Most a/c visit LAF once a week for m/x on various days.
The BAe-146 is in my Google Drive link below. The YS-11's are being worked on as we speak. Stay tuned.
