Can anybody tell in what year strobe lights were installed on passenger planes? I think that in the eighties these lights were not on airplanes yet, they appeared only in the nineties. Am I right?

Oh, no, Strobes were around in the 70s. DC-10s L-1011s and 747s wewre delivered with strobes. Much of it was airline specific , whether they had strobes on a particular aircraft or not.

First time I saw strobes was on Piper Aztec G-AZBK, Luton (EGGW) 17th August 1971
