Hello everyone, Thanks to the amazing 1998 flight plans and my love of 90s aviation (one airline in particular, and let this be the hub of that airline ) I've begun working on a fully custom classic airport scenery: Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment DeletedLots of work still to be done of course, especially when it comes to modeling. But the underlying afcad file is fully working, including drive through parking which was an absolute pain to implement correctly... Hope you guys like what you see, if so you can expect more in the future! Anyone able to guess what airport I'm working on?

Hi Brian
I am new to Retro Ai forum but really enjoy the retro repaints and flightplans that all the painters/planners put out so huge thanks to all involved. Great little project you've got going there (I'm guessing Athens Ellinikon). Don't know would you consider doing Dublin (EIDW) sometime in the future.
Keep up the good work. Looks great.
Dan

WOW! Is that ATH?! Man if it helps you, I actually made a very accurate ADEX for the FSX LGAT scenery...before realizing it wouldn't work with P3Dv4 LOL. I see your awesome custom textures, but if you're interested in my file which includes the military parking, Olympic hangar parking, and all properly numbered\sized\coded gates and taxiways from a late 1990s airport diagram. If it will help save you time in your project, let me know and I'll happily share it!
Thank you so much for this, LGAT had some of the coolest traffic in 1998\99.

Well that seemed like an easy guess! Great little project you've got going there (I'm guessing Athens Ellinikon). Don't know would you consider doing Dublin (EIDW) sometime in the future. Hey Dan thanks! I've no idea what future projects I'll be working on but if any good source material (aerial imagers etc.) are available I'll conisder it! After this I plan on tackling Nicosia airport as it was before the Turkish invasion so if I do make Dublin, it will only be after that. Any information is always useful. I have about 3 different generations of charts but anything extra is always better to cross compare. Digging through the archives I have probably got every imaginable picture of the airport so I really want to make this as accurate as possible! Btw, do you need help converting the file to p3d? I've got more than enough hours with the SDK to help you out with that if you want to! Alternatively, I can set up a small project hub where everyone can download periodically update files to use for themselves if people wouldn't mind unfinished work on their sims?

Here I am sitting at the eastern apron together with a 727 from Olympic subsidiary Macedonian Airlines. Ellinikon had, as far as I have seen, one of the most complex and busiest looking ground markings on the apron and taxiways. The combination a single active runway, the lack of taxiway signs as well as the lack of more modern equipment like jetways, it always felt like a very different airports to the many you saw in Europe at that time. It makes ATH one of the most fun airport for me to fly in and out of! Attachment DeletedAnother shot, this time over at the western Olympic terminal. The end of the 90s seems like on the busiest times for Olympic but the airline never really was profitable after Aristotle Onassis sold the airline in the mid 70s. Despite that, the iconic 6 rings combined with the dark blue is in my opinion one of the most beautiful liveries to have ever been flown! This is what we're all in it for, classic traffic! Attachment DeletedHere's what the behind the scenes 3D model looks like thus far, still a lot to do! Attachment Deleted

I think it would be a cool idea to have an occasionally updated "BETA" of the scenery. Sounds like my ADEX wouldn't be of much use to you if you have all that data, unless you have issues finding good info on the military parking layouts as I had to dig a lot to find those.
I had no idea that LGAT had no taxiway signs LOL what a crazy airport. A very interesting place to fly into for sure, especially with the late 90s traffic where the airport was close to capacity.

Well in that case I'll start by uploading the initial version of the AFCAD file. The Olympic and Bravo apron are working as intended but the eastern international terminal hasn't been done properly yet so the parking spots are a bit all over the place. A few notes for those who want to use this airport: Drive through parking kind of works but with the limited AI engine that p3d provides it can be an absolute pain to get this working correctly 100% of the time. That is why sometimes the AI decides to either stop taxiing for no reason, or they decide to just drive through each other. For now there's no way to fix it because the airport is sort of split up into an arrival and departure taxiway network with overlapping taxiway lines. Unfortunately this is the only way to get this style of parking working. Currently included are the 33R ILS and VOR/DME approach but they may or may not have been done as supposed(honestly, this is the first time I have used approaches). The ATH VOR uses 114.3 instead of 114.4 since this is now used by another VOR in Athens. Anyway, it does look really cool if I do say so myself! Especially when it is rush hour, this airport just feels like an absolute chaos for any controller. So here's the link. Please let me know if you find any bugs. Have fun and keep the blue side up!

So unfortunately, LGAT's ADE file says "failed to compile" and I can't open it, and in my sim, none of the gates load...there are some buildings, but very few ground textures and no parking. No AI on the ground. Missing files or wrong file, perhaps? Or is this not for P3Dv4\5? Usually even FSX airports will work.

I have attached my work in progress for the LGAT FSX scenery available on AVSIM. It adds the gates and is fully functional - also removes the large hanger obstructing the runway! I have no idea if it works in P3D however. Let me know if it does

I have no idea if it works in P3D however. Let me know if it does Ok this one works, thanks! Was it on purpose that some parking spots are not connected to taxiways? I modified the ADEX a bit to add Olympic and Macedonian parking to the West parking and the Olympic Aviation parking on the West side, where I added 4 spots for now along with the cargo\general aviation apron across from the Olympic area. Also noted some retired Olympic 727s in the grass, so as I had created these to sit in LGAT, I put parking there for them. The ground textures look great, I am having an elevation issue which causes them to "flash" as I pan the view around sometimes. I see tons of objects in the ADE file, but I only see objects by the Olympic parking, but with no textures. Is this correct for the BETA or do I need to convert objects to P3Dv4+? A great start for sure, nice job! Such cool traffic. All 1998 traffic.

Hmm strange that the ADE file didn't work, I'll make sure to check it! When did you get the message failed to compile? That way I can try and reproduce the error. At the moment I exclude every object at the airport so that would explain the lack of buildings for now. I tend to just update the files throughout the week with new features for myself to test out that's why some untextured models are present currently. They can be disabled though. Ground textures and flickering will be fixed soon, thanks for letting me know! Here's what the Olympic Maintenance hangars look like right now, still untextured (for now ): Attachment DeletedBTW, I'm working on an installer as well so installing and updating should be way easier in the (hopefully) near future!

Your traffic looks amazing! The chaotic look of so many parked airliners is really cool! I'm still working on getting all traffic files compiled as well as downloading and installing all liveries while also working on this. Thank you so much for the 1998 traffic man!

So, for the people who like history I have done quite some research on this airport and googling in Greek I found an amazing architectural drawing from 1975. Around the early seventies, there were studies going on around the replacement for the now close to its limit Ellinikon. A lot of locations were considered before they finally settled on the location of the current airport near Spata. However, after digging through the archives I found out they had actually considered expanding the airport into the sea! This would have allowed for parallel runway operations instead of the then fairly useless parallel runways that were in use at the time: Anyway, back to development for me! Working on the western terminal, which partially burned down in 2005. This included large parts of the central section of the building which leaves very little information regarding the original design of the roof. After digging through many pictures, historical satellite imagery as well as perhaps some little creative freedom, I think I have blocked out a fairly accurate representation of what once was! Onto adding the details now.

chasensfo - pleased you have got it work. I see from your screenshots however that the excellent terminal buildings are missing from Moraitis Vangelis scenery. You need to download it from Avsim. Hope it all works out!

OK I'm confused, so this scenery is not all-inclusive but requires the download of the FSX LGAT scenery on Avsim that has been around for a while? That one I recall didn't seem to have the buildings show up in P3Dv4+ but I will see if I can convert them. Brian, thank you but it wasn't all me! Some of the flightplans and most of the repaints are by others, I just try and put it all together for you guys to enjoy more easily. I'll add Athens to the regions where all 1998 flights will be completed ahead of the release of the missing airlines that flew there from the late 1990s being completed. Very much appreciate this scenery, and I'm more than happy to do what I can to help make sure it'll work in P3Dv4\5 too!
