Hi, newbie to RetroAI, though not to FS (been simming since FS98 or thereabouts). Thanks for this great summary of models. Building a 70s era retro environment - so this models list is excellent. My question is around repaints for AIA models, specifically the 727s. I note the P3DV4 packs, but will they readily accept the FS9 repaints on avsim? The ones I'm after (eg: Pan AM, CP Air, etc.) were done many years ago for FS9. Will these work on the P3DV4 models? Will I experience a big hit in FPS using bmp based paints? I suppose I could learn to convert all those FS9 textures to DDS format, but that'd be a lot of work. Thoughts on those FS9 repaints? Thanks, dl I think P3Dv4/5 require .DDS files(don't quote me on that) as opposed to bitmaps. Conversion is fairly easy, just throw bitmaps into DXTBMP, and put it in your editing software of choice(Paint.NET, Photoshop, Gimp, etc.), flip the image vertically, load it back into DXTBMP, and save as a .DDS. From there, it should be good to use in P3Dv4/5, provided the model is also compatible. If using the PBR lighting updated 727(which you should because the whole point of the modern sim is better visuals), you need to discard the "_l" file and place the one provided with the new updated model inside each texture folder along with the provided .cfg notepad file so the texture knows where to get the PBR effects from. I'll make a tutorial. As for the NAAI 707...I know ranmori did conversions, I have to check and see if they're public.

Thanks noob and Chase! Yes, the NAAI 707-320C intrigues me, as I believe I've seen a number of repaints for it that would be excellent, but for which as of yet, haven't seen the base model. I'm currently running the Calclassics 707, DC-8, etc pack for 1962 which are fine - but I'd like to build out a world closer to the mid 70s, and while I'm happy enough with the quality of those models in my sim, the paint schemes of course changed a lot over just a decade (eg: Braniff, CPA, TCA/AC, etc.) I also found it odd that the new DC-9 models and many of the DW packs recently issued for P3D4 have only the models, but not the aircraft.cfg or .air files. I'm assuming I need to chase down the FS9 originals, and borrow those? I've long since deleted all my FS9 content, thinking it'd not be of any use in the 64-bit sim. Silly me ... cheers, dl

Yes on AIG, they only post the updated models\files, so you need to first download the FS9 models(many of which I linked to in the first post) and then convert.

Links added, including a PBR update for FSPX's freeware MD-11.

Thanks for these.
I managed to replace all the aircraft assignments in the default aircraft traffic bgl to a mix of AI 727s, 737s, DC-10, L-1011, and 747s to create a Retro 1985" environment. It doesn't yield accurate airline-specific routes, just replaces the ugly modern airliners with fake generic airlines with a smattering of PAN AM, BA, JAL, and a few other big carriers to make it at least vaguely convincing. The initial scour of models and paints gave me enough to do a "Retro 1975" aircraft assignment, so that'll be nice to add for flying in that period.
I'll then find some specific airline routes and make more route- and region specific / accurate traffic.
But for now, the "default" traffic looks way better, and so to all repainters and model team members, I give a hearty thank you.

I wish it was that easy for me, I'm too picky and break it down into 2 year time periods (1998\99, 2002\03, 1982\83, ect).

The TCAI TU-154M still survives on avsimrus.com. I just found it there.

The readme in one pointed to a dead link here: www.tuocielo.ru/view_cat_model_en.php?cat2=tu154m§ion=modelDidn't look like any part of the tuocielo.ru domain worked. Am I missing something? thx

TCAI is long gone. Cgold might have some repaints in his drive for them.

TCAI is long gone. Cgold might have some repaints in his drive for them. I interpreted your earlier post as meaning the base TU-154 model was on avsimrus. Did I misunderstand that? Apologies if I’m not following.

Am I missing something? thx FS9 repaints will work in P3D. You need to download DXT.bmp, a free program, import the "_T" texture, which will be a ".bmp" file, flip it upside down, save it as a DXT5 ".DDS" texture, delete the old texture, and you're done. You can do the same for the "_L", but if there is an updated P3Dv4\5 lightmap and\or "PBR" which I explain on the front page, you should use those files in lieu of the FS2004 "_L" file. I hope that makes sense. TCAI is long gone. Cgold might have some repaints in his drive for them. Yes, and in fact, you've given me an idea to include links to popular locations for finding airline textures. I didn't do this in the past because I was thinking of my own project where I include repaint links, but until there is an installer, people will need to search for most other 90s paints and stuff from the 80s, 70s, ect. But yes, cgold far and away is the world's largest distributor of Eastern European AI repaints.

OK a major update, I have added repaint links to many of the AI contributors so that users can browse for stuff they may have missed, I am sure I left people out, but this should be a solid list. I also added the chrisP AI models to the list, but I am not sure if anyone has converted them to P3Dv4. cgold and @brianw have done a lot of repaints for those models also. Mods, bjoern had contributed a lot to the 70s-90s with various repaints. The threads and links to download are still buried in the "Repaint Links" section, such as "Northwest Airlink 1986" and such. Since he made so many paints needed for a lot of flightplans to this day and the links are valid and not uploaded on Avsim and the likes, is there anyway to link to them as he displays as "deleted member" with no sorting ability. Some real goodies in there from him, like the Republic Airways late 80s DC-9s on the AIG model. Feel free to share links to other repaints and I'll update the list.

It looks like you're missing the Caravelle III, VI-N, VI-R, 10B3, 10R and 12, the Convair 340 and 440, the Otter, the Heron srs1 and my DC-4 Still, it's nice to be noticed Exit runway when able Christian

The models are amazing by the way, so, so much better than DWAI, HTAI, the old CalClassic stuff, ect. Thank you! Can't wait to eventually see them all working in P3Dv4\5 and hopefully MSFS one day. I wonder if anyone at Calclassics will ever start re-doing the textures for your models.
