Has anyone done this before?
I would like to create a few different installs of FSX so that I can have a semi-permanent era specific AI, which includes period correct Airports.
However, sometime back I tried this using the CalClassic stuff. It was great for a few flights, then I Went back to my regular FSX install and found that it had ALL of the CalClassic scenery installed in it.
So how do I run multiple FSX installs and have them using separate scenery.cfg files?

AFIAK, separate installs are not possible with FSX. You CAN use multiple scenery.cfg files and swap them in and out as needed though, via file renaming.

I just split everything up into addon scenery files, and when I want a specific era, I just enable the right files and bam, I've got what I want. Pretty simple.

Hi there, I had multiple FS9 and even P3D installs before. For many reasons, let me just save you the trouble and say the scenery configs and even cut+pasting files in and out of the sim as needed to change the era is much better.

I think a prefix might help. That's what I did earlier in my sim to keep apart the various era of aviation. For example my flightplans for 1989 were in a folder named "Summer 1989" and the Calclassic sceneries had a tag for the year they were from. That way it's all in one and can be activated and deactivated by pleasure.
Kind regards.
