Now available! This set was actually a bit of fun. I went through about 30 different color combinations for the standard aircraft before settling. No photos show them the same, with variations due to lighting, angle, age, but I'm pretty please with how they turned out.
Normally I don't do a lot of weathering, since an entire identical fleet is weird in sim, but since the leased aircraft are one-offs, I got the chance to beat them to hell. I suspect flying through a couple good southern thunderstorms took a toll, especially since the Aer Lingus bird has a replacement nose cone.

Yes Britannia did lease one and from memory seeing it at Gatwick it was in standard Air Florida colours. That’s what made it exciting to see at Gatwick along with their DC10. Cheers Miles Ps 1983 in the sim just gets better and better thank you Brian.

Miles, thank you for your kind words. It gets eye-crossing sometimes but I'm still loving it.
N37AF spent the summer of 82 with Britannia in full Air Florida colors and a small Britannia sticker by the forward door. It was back with FLA by October.
53AF also ended up across the pond with Air Europe as G-BJXL, also in full FLA colors. I don't know that it ever got Air Europe colors before moving on to Dan-Air in late 83.
Air Florida was one of the few American carriers to supplement their fleet with leased aircraft almost every season. I suppose it was a good cost saving.
Not entirely surprising since, if I remember right, Air Florida never actually leased any gate space in Miami, relying entirely on common-use gates. Cheaper, yes, but a terrible pain for customers who never knew which gate they'd be using often until the incoming aircraft had landed - leading to a mad dash from one side of the airport to another, and sometime back!

I'm a big fan of this livery. The full-Zebra DC-8-50 was good in theory, but to me, it always just looked dirty. This one is a nice blend of style and function. African Safari Airways Douglas DC-8-63

Scott - thank you. Thank you so much for your support. Not only am I now highly caffeinated, I've also recently renewed one of the blog's domains and this will help with that. Thank you.I'm a big fan of this one. It's of the few 747s with the JT9D-70A engines and I like the flying elephant logo. Since the -70A hasn't been modeled, this repaint uses the GE model, but I completely retextured the engines to match the -70A. While it's not perfectly perfect, I'm quite content. I think I spent more time on the engines than the whole rest of the paint, including hand-drawn logos! Nigeria Airways Boeing 747-200

Must've been SE-DFZ from SAS. If I'm not mistaken only SAS, Flying Tigers and Air Madagascar had the JT9D-70a power plants on their 747s.

Must've been SE-DFZ from SAS. If I'm not mistaken only SAS, Flying Tigers and Air Madagascar had the JT9D-70a power plants on their 747s. There were only 8 aircraft built and they started with SAS(2), Cargolux(1), Seaboard World(4), Air Madagascar(1).
The SAS birds floated in and out of leases. The Avianca aircraft that crashed on approach to Madrid in 83 was one of the SAS aircraft.
The cargo aircraft all followed similar paths - Seaboard/Cargolux -> Tigers -> FedEx -> Atlas.
