Azal Azerbaijan had such a wild fleet in the late 90's and early 2000's. Everything from ex-Soviet types, Boeing 707's & 727's, to the wonderfully monstrous CL-44 Guppy. www.jetphotos.com/photo/198961 B/w Dan Reeves and myself, we covered a bunch of Azeri Il-76's, An-12's, and an An-32. If they aren't on my Google Drive, they will be soon. Baku gonna get busy.

The proverbial "Icarus" of the freight-dog/arms-running world. Was flying from Africa to Europe when the Yugoslav Air Force no less "pulled over" this jet and ordered them to land in Zagreb. What was on board was seized and the plane went into the Yugo AF registry for a little bit. Then the jet was ferried to OST, changed hands a few times, and was eventually scrapped in the early 2000's.

Those are some handsome jets Jason! Certainly gonna look good over at AirLivery in Southend. Wild that they continued the paint onto the hot part of the engines. Was this a B or C model? I've seen info citing both.

They are all B models. They were built as B(SCD). The SCD stands for Side Cargo Door. They didn't have a reinforced floor like the C models, so their utility as a freighter or combi was limited. Only 5 were built.

I was just driving thru MSP yesterday looking out at the freeway and remembering being all excited as a kid when this came over after I never thought I'd see a UA DC-10 again haha. Very cool. When USPS gave up their own airline and FedEx got the bulk of the contract, I recall this one doing the early evening MEM-MSP all the time likely as it was an immediate supplemental "lift" for the big USPS hub at MSP (which exists to this day, to the point that Delta uses A321s vs A319/320 to some Western US cities on the last flight of the night just for all the mail!).

For as long as I have had aviation books and magazines and the internet, Daallo Air has been surviving with an ever-revolving rag-tag fleet. When I used to train people for terminal ops at SFO, I found out the Daallo logo was in our common-use database so I'd have them create Daallo IL-18 flights to Hareigesia on the gate plot and also on the terminal screens so they could go down and see it after. Sometimes we'd briefly assign some ticket counters too, probably have pics somewhere of Daallo signage all over the SFO lobby LOL. Yet, no one would ever notice\report it. Another time I had someone do a Libyan Arab Airlines flight to Tel Aviv and, what do you know, that one gets noticed. And then I didn't play that game anymore.
