A thread for the soon to be released AI aircraft from the Historic Jetliners Group.
First, the one and only rule. DO NOT ask about release dates. You won't get an answer. They will finished when they are finished. Period......... End of rant.
These are ground up new build models built in FSDS V3.51, and are not early or old HJG models converted for AI use, but they are built in the footprint of the HJG models so their textures can be used.
The DC-8 project.
The plan is to release a number of models first, then by series until they are completed.
First will be the 62, 63, 71,72 and 73 in one go, and then in descending model order until completed.
The 63's have just had a minor fix which was found while fixing a bigger error on the 62F.
The 62 and 62F have now been fully updated with the fixes and features that the 63 has.
The aircraft have a detailed main model, so can be looked up close, a Hi-Fi model.
All have nine levels of detail, all have the normal animated parts and also include opening doors/ cargo door depending on the model, compressing gear etc.
They will have the complete catalogue of HJG DC-8 textures available, filling a gap that exists for many at the moment.
The models are designed for use in FS2004, but will also work in FSX.
The 63 series is ready, and the 62 is now under test, and will have the texture packs produced over the next week.
The 73 PAX model is ready, with the freighter to be made next. The CFG and FDE need tweaking for this model.
After that will be the 71 and then the 72.
I am also working on the 707 model which was shelved in 2010 in favour of the DC-8.
The pictures in air cargo 1993 are of the early V2 version from 2009.
I had a much more advanced version in 2010, but that model was lost when I upgraded my PC
I have a later model than those pictures which is being brought back up to how it was before it was lost.
The 707 is used as a sanity buffer for when making texture sets or LODs for the DC-8s, which is as stimulating as watching paint dry
Compared to the V2 model, the V3 (the one in progress now) will have a completely new set of base textures as I have been slowly changing parts as the model is updated.
More textures are required as a result.
Still a long way to go, but the result so far is pleasing.
All the parts which date back to the original FS2002 model have now been replaced by higher spec parts on par to the improvements of the DC-8 series.
Compressing gear still to do, doors to make, etc etc, and lots of un-textured parts (new), and original parts to be replaced, which is evident in the WIP pictures.
The 707/720 will follow the DC-8s when that production line is shut down.
I will post here one the first batch is released.
OK, time to preview some of the aircraft.
