I'm trying the ropes of painting up AI jets and I have to give you all mad props for rolling these out so fast... It's taken me all evening just to get where I am here... This is my try at the Midway DC-9-10 in the later colors on the new AIG paintkit. My question is how would guys do the Midway logo on the tail?

Nice work!!! Well, since I use photoshop it would be hard to help you, but I guess there has to be some sort of shapes, actually like the one you used for for the bottom red belly. - Try using several ones and rotate them to your needs so that you get the shape of the color (in this case rectangles may will work out.
- Use Pen Tool and trace over the logo (extremely helpful for any irregular shape). I don't know if corel has teh "pen tool" under the same name as Photoshop does.

You might need to reduce the magic wand to a lower percent or something.
And yes, for the red line that goes up the tail try to use the same thing you did on the belly, unless there is no option to rotate shapes.

It did not like it when I tried to rotate a rectangle up the tail...hence why there is paintbrush usage up the tail... The logo is a little rough... I may switch it out for yours, Jason's...

I was able to wrangle this... This any closer to that fine edge? (That red up the front oftail looks a little jagged... but that could just be me...)

Ok... I fixed the tail up best I could... I rounded off the edges of the red and grey down below the engines... Now, How do I get this bird in sim and try it out? From where I am and where I need to be are two different places...

Ok... After wrestling with Corel, I was able to get this... Certainly not as good as what you guys produce, I admit... I think I'm going to leave you guys to the painting and I'll keep practicing with simpler PK's and we'll go from there... There's no way I'm going to be able to fix the things wrong with this paint scheme. My review: The grey cheatline is off on the one side... The whole jet looks blurry, kinda... The lettering ("Midway" titles and the reg.) looks blurry... (compared to what its parked next to...) The engines still have blue "lines" from the PK that I can't seem to cover... And the belly is "after-market" (post-layer-merge) painted... If someone wants this, I'll ship it to anywhere it needs to go. (So it can recieve a paint over-haul...) Same goes for the other repaints I've done.

Did you use any extra tools to preview the model before you loaded it into FS9?
Jason, for example uses that former payware aircraft management tool (forgot the name) and I use ModelConverterX.
After every odd hour painting or so, I quickly load the model into MCX to check whether everything is where it belongs and whether cheatlines or so line up properly and then go on and correct it. In any case it helps aviding disappointment once the model is loaded into MSFS.
Cheatline alignment rises and falls with texture mapping of the model and master texture reference point (panel lines, windows, etc...) positioning. AIA did good work on that, as I could align PSA's lines without much hassle.
Blurriness is a matter of texture compression. DXT1/3/5 tends to blur textures a bit. Your paint looks sharp ebough in my book though.
The engines look okay to me as well.
Don't merge layers! I don't know how CorelDraw does it, but GIMP saves files as layered .xcfs and you have to export the file as .bmp to get your MSFS-compatible format. You can always reopen the .xcf later if you want to alter something on one of the layers.
Just don't give up now.

Thanks for the tips... I'll probably get back into it when I get Photoshop... Corel isn't what I learned on in school and it's challenging what my habits are...

Well, if you prefer Photoshop anyways, try GIMP. The interfaces and tools are very similar. Also, me and probably others can provide a bit of support if needed.

Well I use PSP, and not a recent one either. I don't like Photoshop for creating textures, PSP is just simpler and has better drawing tools. I also have Photoshop Elements for 32 bit tasks and saving JPGs. And ImagerPRO (A really old photo effect editor) for some effects. To do metal i actually have all 3 running together and am copying things from one to another... yes it's nuts

Wow... And I thought juggling three different programs was a bad thing.. seems to be the thing to do, actually. Maybe I'll open up a Box accout for the stuff I've done. (I'm not really sure if that'll work, though... I've copied and used some things from elsewhere to get certain textures to work (ex: my Transaero Il-86 texture)).
