Hi all,
I was wondering what you folks use as a model for the 707-320B (or C)?
Thanks,

Hi Tom,
I use the 707's from Dee's site. Of course all you have to do to make a -320B into a -320C is add the cargo door outline, or do the opposite for the other direction. Several of my early efforts used the Project AI 707, but that one looks more like a 720, so I moved most to Dee's model.
Take care, Kurt

Adding to what Kurt said, I prefer the models on Dee's site. I have nothing against the PAI models, I use a few of them personally, but their licensing rules make it impossible to distribute the aircraft except via their site, and I hope to reach the most people possible with my work.

This is the AI 707 I like something about the engines on Dee's 707 do not look right to me they are to small and narrow again this is from a visual prospective not from a painting perspective. www.geocities.com/r0kec/b707.html

Hi again, OK, some of you are using Dee's model (that other one looks very nice though). The reason I ask is that Mike Stevens and I are beginning to redo our Early Jet Traffic package to include aircraft and traffic up to 5/62, and that includes some -120B's and -138B's. So I've updated the early jets I created from Dee's models he graciously provided me in the past and also improved his JT-3D nacelles (IMHO). Not perfect, just improved in shape. It's a pretty simple matter to convert the updated -320 I did into a -320B since I did the engines already, and thus the question in the first post. With your replies I've created this new MDL file: Note that the textures are those from our old -320, so they are not correct for the -320B. It has these changes: 1. Engine nacelles changed in shape, added 3D intakes and intake spikes. 2. Taxi lights added - will light up while taxiing to/from the runway. 3. Changed the LOD settings so you won't see the 4 sided model until much further away. This will affect the frame rate slightly, though (not too much on my system). I've created two versions, with and without the ventral fin, just like Dee's release. I don't have permission from Dee to release this to places like AVSIM and I'm not sure we need it for our package (there was only 1 Pan Am 320B delivered by 5/62), but hopefully the updated MDL files will be available soon (I've emailed Dee).

Thanks Dee! I'll let Kris host it here if he wants, and at AVSIM if not.
BTW, we will also have a -120B, -138B, and a 720B in our updated AI package.

Tom
That's very good news about the -120B and 720B : they are badly needed ! Do you know when the updated package will be out ?
Thanks.
Richard.

Hi, I wondered if the the other 707B/720B's were available elsewhere - that's why I mentioned them. The updated package is a massive undertaking (over 30 new paint schemes, all MDL files will be updated, lots of flight planning to do), so it won't be out for a couple of months at the least, and perhaps several months after that. I don't want to release parts of it early, in case there are some changes needed at the end. BTW, Mike Stevens (the package's author) prefers the cabin lights to be on all the time (like my propliners), so that's the way we'll have the MDL's set up in our package. I can create versions of all of the B's using Dee's "lights come on 15 minutes before departure/go off 15 minutes after arrival" approach, but the night textures have to be DXT3 with the correct alpha channel. Or you can use our versions that are always on - what do you folks prefer? If the former, I can include these other MDL files in the update to be available here or at AVSIM. PS. I'm looking forward to that 1963 TWA flight plan!

Hello Tom,
For the sake of commonality with the other AI models (like AIA's 747s), I'd be most grateful for the "lights on/lights off" version.
No matter what, thanks a lot for all your work
Christian
