No, I'm not submitting anything (at least, not yet ;D )
I've come across an old KAL ad from 1974 and matching timetable where they announce their (quote)" Daily transpacific service with a new 747B & DC-8's".
Yes: "DC-8's"...
From the timetable, I don't think it's a codeshare...
Does anybody have a clue?
Thanks in advance
Christian

You were the one ar e-bay.... Nah, just kidding. According to Airliners.net, those DC-8´s were leased in by KAL from ONA (=Overseas National). Can we expect the KAL soon? BTW. did they fly to FRA and KUL at that time? Regards. -STEFAN-SUN_KING-

Thank you very much, Stefan! You were the one ar e-bay.... (with apologies to the Scarlet Pimernel):"They seek him here, they seek him there, those Germans, they seek him everywhere!" Unfortunately, from what I have, in 1974 KAL didn't go west beyond Hong Kong and Bangkok and no further east than HNL and LAX On the other hand, the 1981 schedule does show FRA and could be scanned.... and e-mailed.... ;D

Sure - just pm me your e-mail and I'll scan them tonight. It's just 5 pages, unless you're interested in Passenger Fares and stuff... Aircraft used are: DC10, 747-200, A300B, 707, 727-200 and 747SP Anybody want to have a go at those repaints: be my guest - I'm busy enough as it is these days. Exit runway when able Christian

...Anybody want to have a go at those repaints: be my guest - I'm busy enough as it is these days... Christian I wish I could. We need more painters, or at least a person who pays for repaints and we'll stop working on trivia like our real jobs. LOL Just got my Iberia 88 timetable today but I promise not to bid on more.

N8635, N8636, N8637, N8638 from Seaboard N867F, N868F from ONA I presume these were freighters? Andy

I don't think so: the "freighter service" flight was KE801/802 with 707s The DC-8 flight nbrs were also operated with other aircraft types (eg: a flight could be DC-8 on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, and 707on Sunday) The aircraft code is "D8S", which would match a '63. ?

I wonder what the "CF" stands for, then? Andy

Hi Andy,
as far as I know "CF" stands for "convertible freighter".
Best regards!!!

Question is: were they build as such or were they converted? Based on the fact that DC-8s and other aircraft types were assigned to the same flight numbers on different days, I'm inclined to think they weren't cargo flights. Besides, KAL wasn't such a big airline back in '74 that they would have had in service simultaneously freighter versions of the 747, DC-8, 707, and 727. btw, this is the ad in question (click to enlarge):

Hi Andy, as far as I know "CF" stands for "convertible freighter". Best regards!!! Michael Maybe they were "quick change" congifuration. I wan't aware any DC-8's were configured that way but it makes sense. I don't know much about ONA but Seaboard was primarily a freight carrier, I believe, that also operated military personnel charters. Apparently, KAL operated them as pax aircraft as a stopgap move while expanding the range of their flights. Andy

chrisP: Thanks a lot. I got it today. Is it ok with you, when I do this on my summer vacation in August? Also, the map shows Frankfurt and Amsterdam, but they are not in the Schedule. Are they missing or were they planned at that time? Thanks again and regards. -STEFAN-SUN_KING-

You're right - I was mistaken and they're only on the map, not in the schedule on in the "passenger fares" section, so you're not missing a page. Sorry If anybody gets their hands on a more recent schedule, we'll see if that was a planned destination You can do the schedule/repaints whenever you wish: it's your baby The only KAL I intend to do is the '74 and the only aircraft we've got in common are a 742 and a 703. Exit runway when able Christian

Hi. We´ve got far more in common then you think.....in sences of KAL I looked at your scans and they also indicate the: 707, 727, 747, 747SP, A300 and DC-10. Maybe I shall place in my request as I got a 1986 and 1978 from them. For the 1986 I´d need the same plus a 747-300 in their present scheme - without the Skyteam Logo. So, I hope one painter could do them. I can´t - no time. BTW. How is all coming a long? Regards. -STEFAN-SUN_KING-
