When setting up to do some screenshots for a couple of new repaints, I encountered a problem of AI aircraft (and only AI aircraft) sinking into the runway. Here are a couple of pix: KONT KSNA These two are the only airports that I've encountered with this problem. The only deviation from the norm of installing these add-on sceneries is that I futzed with the AFCADs to get the parking the way I wanted it. That didn't include turning all the AI into low-riders, however. Can someone please give me some ideas/suggestions/whatever as to how I can eliminate this issue? That's all. Thanks in advance for the help. bwob

Hi,
First, if you were in slew mode when looking at these airports, get out of it (Y) and then restart FS. If you find they are still underground, then try putting a copy of that AFCAD file into the FS/Scenery/World/scenery folder and restarting FS.
Hope this helps,

I got into slew mode to move the the plane I was using for the setups (the 757) where it needed to be to get the MD-90 and 737 into the same frame. I started out of slew and dropped out of it and there was no difference. I even quit MSFS, restarted my computer and restarted MSFS, all to no effect.
Tom, when you say "that" AFCAD, which one do you mean? The ones for KSNA and KONT? Dumb question, but where do they live? Do I need to move the file to the FS/Scenery/World/scenery folder, ot just put one there and leave the original wherever it was found?

The AFCADs, if they are not the defaults, should be in the "Add-On Scenery" folder. The default airports reside in a .cab file, and are best accessed with the AFCAD program - you can actually take an existing default and create a second layer by opening it up and then saving it to your Add-On Scenery folder. There are also more complex solutions for elevation issues, such as flatten switches and such, but there should be no reason why you'd have to really do that at these airports that I know of.
The short story is that an airport is at a given altitude and AI takes than and runs with it. If you use an add-on and there is just a slight variation in elevation, you get what you're seeing. I ran into the same at Dallas-Fort Worth when working on a 1975 layout for it in AFCAD. I didn't get quite the results you are seeing - most planes just looked like they had flat tires - but some tweaking of the elevation on the ramps and taxiways and the problem was solved. I must also note that the "flat tires: only occurred when the planes were parked - when taxiing, they appeared normal.
I guess, in short, FS design is still a "black art" in many ways and it never helps when Microsoft changes the technology on us. I've been in the game 10 years now, and some great strides have been made - allow me or Tom to tell you about Aircraft Animator keyframes or worse - hexadecimal editing to attain animated gear and props in FS98 - something made so much easier by today's tools. Nevertheless, this hobby has only one constant, and that is change. We can only do our best to keep up with the whims of the minds in Redmond.

Hi,
I suspect that both of those are addon airports - perhaps by Shez? If so, contact him for the solution. Also, check at AVSIM (etc.) for any updates that might eliminate this problem. Google is your friend...

Thank you both Kristopher and Tom. When I get home tonight and get the KLM A310 uploaded somewhere, I'll Google around and see what can be done with the AFCADs for the two airports. And that's right, both are Shehryar Ansari's work.
I recall before I went in and futzed with the AFCADs to re-assign airlines to particular gates and such (as well as attempt to line things up better than with the original AFCAD), there were no problems. Only after I went in and fuddled around using Lee Swordy's AFCAD program did the low-riders show up. Maybe I broke something...

Avsim should have a fix for Shehryar´s Sceneries. I don´t know the name, right now, but they were made for FS2002 and had problems in FS9. Therefore the fix at avsim.
Kind regards.
