OK guys,
I added 1 GB SDRAM and much to my surprise I saw a significant improvement in FRs at busy ariports. Much to my dismay the new chip also seems to be causing FS9 to crash randomly. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andy

Push the new chip in again. Back in the old FS98 days I had a similar problem with a ram chip that randomly "lost" full contact to the mobo.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I just want to clarify that it didn't crash my whole system, just FS9.
I was very careful that both chips, old and new, made good contact but I suppose that's always possible Ralph.
Chris, I think you might be on to something and I hope that's what it is. I had had two 512 chips in there and I went to replace one with the 1GB but it wouldn't even boot with that combination -- arranged in either slot. So I ended up putting in the 1GB with an old 256 that I had lying around and it booted -- but it crashed FS. Let me try just the 1GB by itself and see what happens. Frankly, the improvement in FRs at busy airports was so good that I was thinking about buying another 1GB anyway, so I can just go out and buy the exact same chip.

That appears to have been it. I took out the old chip and ran it on just the new 1 Gig chip. I flew for several hours today with no program crashes and my son was able to play his game with no problems (it was crashing, too, with both chips installed. I'm going to let FS run all night tonight and if there is no crash by morning I'll assume it was a RAM incompatibility issue. Then I am going to order an identical (same brand) 1 Gig chip tomorrow. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues then and I'll have 2 Gig of RAM. BTW -- I did order the chip from New Egg. Thanks for the help, guys. Andy Ed. -- FS ran all night with no crash. Must have been memory chip conflict. New RAM ordered to pair with chip I just installed (same brand, model). Thanks!
