Flyable Retro Repaints (MSFS + P3Dv4\5\6)

Seeing as a few of us, such as myself, mikeblaze, and @bensplanes have done some retro repaints for flyable planes (and I think only Mikey has uploaded them to Avsim), I figured we can start posting them here. So this isn't just intended to be my own thread.But since I started it, I'll try and keep track of what you guys post and edit this original post to link to the paints you post on other pages in the future of this thread.

This is a good idea in my case, as I've modified many inaccurate paints to my own liking, but can't share them on Avsim and the like since I didn't make them. So, anyone who has made any or knows where to find some unusual retro paints we won't find on Avsim, Flightsim, or through livery programs provided by Captain Sim, PMDG, Quality Wings, and so on, let's share them!

Liveries for MSFS

NBFlightSim - Hundreds of high-quality retro and modern repaints meticulously covering many livery variations. New paints seem to only be for MSFS, but up until a year or two ago he was doing P3D too so there are many paints for that sim here as well.

Flightsim.to - Basically the Avsim for MSFS. The vast majority of MSFS freeware ends up here and not on Avsim. A lot of payware can be purchased here too. As MSFS has attracted a huge new simmer base, repaints come out much more frequently than with previous sims and the vast majority of retro Captain Sim, LeonardoSH, PMDG, ect liveires from P3D have already been redone for MSFS and are on this site. Just search the liveries section, which you can do with keywords or by selecting a specific aircraft you want to see repaints of.

Ah OK, cool didn't know that. Well, for the most part, if stuff is going to be in ACE, Avsim, PMDG Ops Center, etc no need to share it then here since it'll be in the obvious locations. For future stuff anyway, I'm not going to delete the links lol. Of all the stuff I posted, I think the Transmeridian paint is the only one I can legally upload to Avsim LOL.

Haha no worries. They said I had to wait up to 48 hours for the repaint to appear but it took about a week. I decided to upload it because I felt it wasn't gonna make it into the program, but alas. I guess you guys have the original.

That is good to know, I didn't understand how submitting liveries worked with Captain Sim. I plan on painting up albino 90s stuff and easier liveries that are within my skillset, as I'm sure as you found out, payware planes have so much detail and such high resolution that they are much more difficult to paint. So it just isn't worth my allotted flightsim time to learn to make full liveries at that detail honestly. I'm glad you decided to take the plunge.

Oddly enough I find the most difficult part about it is the paintkits- the CS L-1011 has 4 different texture mappings for the radome. To date, Mr. Weber has the best paintkits I've used.
On a last note, would you mind if I uploaded any further repaints of mine to this thread?

Go ahead, I was just saying I'm not going to go and hunt down the 100+ paints by Mike P on Avsim and all the other easy to find stuff, but if you want to add it yourself here, no reason not to!

Sun Country DC-10-15 for the CLS DC-10HD package. Utilizes the DC-10-10 model.




Included is a version of the aircraft with a white radome. However, the radome texture mapping is a little goofy and will look flawed upon closer inspection. 


Only tested in P3D V5, DDS DXT5 format.

AWESOME! Thanks for that. Do you use the PBR model from Flightsim.com? Ever since I installed it, the gauges don't work and the view point is zoomed waaaaaaay out.

Let's go to where the sun shines! No, not Florida- too many people here already. The *other* sunshine state.




This is a project from early April that I needed to finish. ATA has a great history of paintjobs, and this one is no exception. The vacation branding wasn't an exact science, I could probably easily count half a dozen minute variations throughout their TriStar fleet. This particular registration combines the best of all worlds. My father happened to work with Pleasant Holidays and ATA in the 90's, programming an online booking engine for holiday-seekers, and I have a 1:400 L-1011-500 in a similar scheme. It was only reasonable that I put this into the sim.





There isn't much more I plan on doing with CaptainSim airplanes. The paintkits are a friggin nightmare across the board and these ATA jets were only possible because I don't pay attention to how much time I spend on obscure paint misalignments. However, that doesn't mean there won't be more of this brand- There is lots to do with the 737 classic!

Besides all the Tristar goodness, I do want to make more of these retro paintjobs since it's a nice change of pace from the AI paintkits. The CLS DC-10 paintkit was very nice so I can guarantee with some certainty that there will be at least 1 DC-10 coming down the line, and I do think I might dabble with the PMDG side of things. Suggestions welcome, I can't think of everything I'm willing to do.

PMDG there have been a lot of retro paints for if you dig around a bit. The CLS DC-10 is also very well covered (though I still can't fly mine until I figure out what that PBR update did lol). Quality Wings as well did a great job doing repaints on their site for retro airliners, and most ARJ/BAe-146 liveries I can think of that aren't obscure (and some that are) have been painted.

Captainsim, a few things I can think of that would probably be popular but don't exist (and wouldn't be a very difficult repaint):

- Alaska 737-400
- Frontier 737-300
- MarkAir 737-300/400
- Morrisair 737-300
- United 737-300 in the original Saul Bass livery as a few were flown in, I think a few even had the experimental bare metal belly.
- National Airlines 757-200 (Captainsim, exists for Quality Wings)
- Southwest Shamu 737-300/500 (not sure how difficult)
- ProAir 737-300/400 (this one would be less popular, but I did a big update to make the DET scenery work in v5 and look much better, would be awesome to re-create the DET-MDW flights)

Despite how many FSLabs repaints are out there, the switch to the PBR model came with other changes and many of the older liveries were never re-done for the newer models. So there is a very limited range of 90s and early 2000s liveries for that one.

The Southwest Shamus are a great suggestion. For clarification, the problem with CaptainSim kits are the lack of a fullbody. More or less, they give you pieces of the airplane and expect you to put it together with seemingly sporadic placement of certain textures. The shapes of the Shamu jets aren't complex and are certainly doable. The Alaska 737-400 has been painted and is on the IniBuilds forum somewhere, but there are no specials available for it just yet. Alaska's fondness of gradients with some of their specials makes tackling them extra difficult. However, I do like the sound of the ProAir jets.

As for the DC-10, I think I found the mod you were talking about and I took a look. It seems the viewpoint is embedded in the model file somewhere beyond what I could find, as I flipped through what I could only assume was just about every tab of MCX to see if there was any utility for the camera. P3D by default has a keybind that physically moves the spot view in and out, but by my best guess, would take anywhere between 5-10 minutes to move it to an acceptable point.

PMDG has my attention for some 2000's jets that don't have paints available. I was shocked to see that there is such a tiny amount of options for the older Alaska livery, and I plan on finding time later to expand the Alaska front a little bit, among other things.
