Well, you know that the cup that resides upon the rings of winning teams is a replica? The real Stanley Cup is safe and sound at the Hall of Fame in Toronto. The real one was pretty abused before the NHL replaced it with the replica in the 1960's, IIRC. I know the Ottawa Senators of the 1920's got really wasted after winning and kicked it into the river - then, they had to go downstream and fish it out after they sobered up. Gretzky, in his autobio, talked about how a rumor got started that the Oilers were a bunch of cokeheads because the cup had been seen with a bunch of straws in it. Gretzky explained that it wasn't cocaine in the cup, they had just turned it into the world's biggest B-52 shooter. Here's some trivia, and I challenge you to answer without Google or any other aid - what was the first American team to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup? I thought I had moved on to giving the Lions the business, and the fact that something might be caught in the Tiger's throat. I think the Twins are pretty big in the Tiger's rear view mirror. Also what was that Packers vs Lions score ? BTW: I saw the Oklahoma U. hockey team getting on one of our birds, the other day.

Actually, I wonder what they were doing up there, must have been some sort of exhibition, as the season started on the 22nd at home with a two-game battle with Nebraska (OU won both). We have a second college team this year, with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos starting play. UCO is that state's third-largest university, at least 15,000 students (that's what they had when I was there, 15 years ago) and is up in the northern suburb of Edmond. I'm more a UCO supporter because not only did I go there, but their arena is only five miles away while OU's is about 20... The OSU Cowboys have a team as well, they use the same rink as UCO, as there's no ice in Stillwater - maybe all that cash Boone Pickens has given them will allow them to build one...freakin' interlopers...

How come the Rock-n-Roll Hall of fame is in Cleveland, and the other large Rock-n-Roll museum is at the Seattle Center? How come I see more NWA planes @ KMSP, and it doesn't smell as bad? And most of the cars I see come from plants in KY, Calif, OH, off ships here at The Port of Portland & Long Beach, and from plants someplace in Canada I can't pronounce? BTW: I am not a Mariner fan, but they did do number on the White Sox's Chance to repeat.

In all fairness, the original Motown groups of the mid-to-late 1960's produced some of the most influential songwriting and timeless music of the era - its impact is still felt and it still influences artists today. Of course, Berry Gordy did pull up stakes in the early 1970's and moved the Motown empire to Los Angeles, but the best stuff that came out of the label is arguably the music recorded in Detroit. The unstable politics of the city also produced a lot of challenging music, such as the MC5 and the Stooges in the late 1960's. and today, it continues to produce a lot of critically-acclaimed artists, such as the White Stripes and the Electric Six. And in Hip-Hop, two of the most controversial and innovative artists of the genre are from the Detroit area - Kid Rock and Eminem. Detroit's contribution to the popular music of the last 50 years is significant - more so than Cleveland or Seattle. Cleveland won the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame due to the dubious claim that Alan Freed began there - which is true, but Freed made his name in New York - and a load of cash. Same with the Experience Music Project in Seattle - it's Paul Allen's cash behind that, Jimi Hendrix had to go to England to become famous and he never identified himself as a Seattle artist. Seattle's contribution to modern music came in the 1990's with the "grunge" movement. Cleveland's really only had a cursory involvement - it was a "hot" locale in the late 1970's when "New Wave" was growing because of bands like Devo, the Pretenders, and the Waitresses - but these bands were actually from Akron, and in the case of the Pretenders) the most popular), they were really a English band fronted by an Ohioan, Chrissie Hynde. The real home of rock n' roll, IMO, is Memphis because rock has its roos in the black R&B that was developed after the war in the south - what used to be called "race music" and Memphis is where Sam Phillips recorded it and Dewey Phillips (no relation) played it to white kids on the radio. Sam Phillips was also the first to record white artists who sounded black, like Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, something that was integral in pushing rock into the mainstream.

Myron Floran he's the man! See this what happens when me and my fellow Yooper radicals, hire someone else to blow-up the bridge, I told Ollie, & Mattii, that part about buying all the cell phones did not sound too good..... I am not an Okie, I am an Oklahoman. Okies are the people who wimped out and moved to Bakersfield in the 1930's. Oklahomans are the people who stayed around and built the actual state that morons like Merle Haggard sing about. I have a strong resentment of the term "Okie" because it's continually associated with the state - often by state offficials - and it's something we should not embrace. The "Okies" are the ones who left because they couldn't hack it and then their overall image got misrepresented even worse by John Stienbeck and John Ford. Watch "The Grapes of Wrath" and then go to Sallisaw - Oklahoma has been burdened by so many lies that came from that book and that movie. It disgusts me that people to this day think we are really like that. That said, I knew Yoopers were behind the Mackinac Bridge plot. Arab terrorists could care less, but Yoopers?

I humbly beg your forgiveness, I did not know.... Go Tigers! Have Yankees down 2 games to 1.... Oh - Oh the Twinkies are gone from the playoffs. But that what happens when a baseball team is from a hockey state... (See that's the best part of being a Yooper, since no one State, or major city acknowledges your exsisitance, your loyalties can be all over. Heck, the Feds a long time ago gave Michigan the Yoop, just to keep them crying about Toledo & Cleveland going to Ohio. Also Wisconsin was nothing more than some French Traders and Swede loggers, roaming through the woods, or paddling down the rivers, and they couldn't have cared less.) Now you see that's why we want the bridge gone not keep people away, just to stop the meager Tax money from going to help Trolls in the Detroit MetroPlex....
