Hello all,
what kind of model do you use as a Caravelle-AI-aircraft?
Dee Waldron left us a Caravelle but I can only find two liveries on avsim: Sabena and Syrianair.
On the other side there are many textures for Mike Stones model. Is this an alternative or does his (flyable) Caravelle hit frame rates?
Kind regards
Michael

Hi Michael. Go to www.calclassic.com and download the early jet AI package and you will get more Caravelle repaints for the D W model. If the one's you need are not there then Mike Stone's model is your only option. M S's model is flyable so will hit the frame rate if you have enough of them around. Unless you are in Paris, I don't think you will have a problem Paul

Mike keeps his models pretty simple, as flyable models go - I have several of his GA planes flying as AI with no discernable FPS hit, even on my older machine where I can't run everything full-up.

I second that. I use a number of Mike Stone's models for AI. Even in Paris there should not be a problem due to AI Caravelles since there are Air France and Air Inter AI Caravelles out there and that would account for the vast majority of Caravelle traffic at Paris.
The key is the number of a/c. A few flyable a/c will not noticeably effect your FR. I even use some HJG a/c for AI (I try to use the simplest of them) because often that's the only place I can find a CV880 or 990 in a particular livery.

Hi All.
The other tip is to delete the sound and panel directories so they do not get loaded up each time for the models. This can kill your system more than the aircraft model.
I also have some HJG flying around as AI and removing the above directories did help with frame rates.
This also works for all AI aircraft.
For your info, Air France is in Tom's early jetliner AI, but Air Inter will have to be sourced else where.
Hope that helps a bit more.
Paul

Hmmm. I could swear I have an AI Caravelle for Air Inter flying around. Maybe it is Mike Stone's flyable model after all. I'll check later. Good point about deleting the sound and panel directories. Of course, you'll have to alias to a different sound file if you want to hear sound for your AI aircraft.

Hi,
I did Dee's AI model in Air France colors. I'll see if I can get it fixed up and posted on AVSIM.
Take care, Kurt

My mistake. It is indeed Mike Stone's flyable Air Inter Caravelle that I'm using. So I know of no Air Inter AI aircraft available, only flyable.

Hi Andy.
AI aircraft use sound controlled by the AI engine so do not need a directory or config file. Its the same sounds for all though!!!
I have been using FSHotSFX for a long time now and have made many soundsets to have unique sounds for many types. I must get around to uploading about six that I have made in the last six months.

Can I get the Syrianair Caravelle from you. I have added the Syrianair Caravelle but the problem with the Syrian texture that I have is the the windshield and the front of the engines is bright green. Do you have the same problem with your texture or not. The one I download is from a Czech AI sight but I could not find the one at Avsim.

Most of the AI planes I've downloaded have no panel folder (for obvious reasons) but do have a sound folder with a config file aliased to the default 737 if a jet or the default DC3 if a piston. I forget what the tuboprops use. Andy

Hi Andy.
It might be there, but the sound directory and config file are not used.
When you make a new model, MakeMDL copies the panel and sound folders from the model used to get the airfile and aircraft config file from.
Have a look at say the AIA MD-80, and you should not find the panel or sound directory.

Hi KLM617, sorry, my Syrianair Caravelle is also from the Czech site you mentioned. Never noticed the green windshield. Well I don't fly to Damascus that often... Kurt, I'm looking forward to your Air France textures for the Waldron-model! Kind regards, Michael

Maybe you can check your Syrian air out if it is not green and if it is not can you send me the whole aircraft and model. My thinking is he painted from the first model and I have a later model version maybe someone has the original Caravlle mode still. Because I have version 2.
