Hello All, Wish I could show some previews, but the forum is full and doesn't let me upload pictures any more. However, look to AVSIM for some weekend surprises. I have very quietly painted over sixty new liveries for Thomas Ruth's L-1011, it works in FSX - P3Dv4 so it's very versatile (and free), and the painting inspired me to step back into AI a little bit. I am going to start unloading the L-1011s today, plus some other Middle Eastern delights. Some of the to-be released AI I have already done in the past, but I have done substantial corrections, enhanced some paint kits, added a bunch of variations, and will be packaging these paints for FS9 - P3Dv4 compatibility. I actually have three sims set up now, FSXSE for CalClassic, P3Dv3 for 1970s-1980s, and P3Dv4 for current traffic. More to follow...... This might be the year I actually set up my own website, so I can just link everything.

That would be great, and we're glad to have you back Mike! Any FAIB 767 repaints on the horizon?

That would be great, and we're glad to have you back Mike! Any FAIB 767 repaints on the horizon? Not sure yet, I am doing an L-1011 festival right now, and I have my hands on the CLS 747 HD paint kit. Everybody's original CLS repaints work fine with the HD model (they didn't change the texture mapping, just made it FSX-native and BIGGER.....). Very straight-forward, but everything needs to be more crisp, so that takes time. I am hand-drawing a lot of stuff I used to get photo-real at a smaller scale. I am focusing on non-500 series L-1011s, and my AI painting should mirror my TR L-1011 painting for now. Little things, like seven TWA variants, four Transat variants, five Air Canada variants, two PSA variants, tand the list goes on. I am just figuring out the FAIB 747s for real, I have done some scattered painting on them, but I have their number now, so some more of that (the hardest AI painting I have ever done). There will be some 767s on the horizon, but not quite yet, as the 767 shares the same headaches as the 747, paint-wise. IMHO, the L-1011 is fairly under-represented in the AI world, with a scattering of single-livery paints, when there is so much more. For instance, Saudia actually had three different base liveries in the 70s, 80s, and 90s (not counting the 60s hockey stripe and very late 90s tan). The style of lettering is different as are the bellies, and I have addressed the lettering in a painstakingly hand-drawn fashion. There are some very nice 747 SVA paints on Jurgen's site, but they are single-livery paints, and there are a lot of variations left un-touched. That's where I come in. I love the challenge of matching my paints to another artist's work, without actually copying that work (which I have never and will never do). First out of the chute for AI this weekend will be Gulf Air L-1011s and 747s, and corresponding big boy paints for the CLS and TR models. After that, the field's wide open.

Am I reading this correctly? AI L-1011?

Easy there, Trigger...... repainting of the existing DWAI L-1011 Tristar 1 model, but with an enhanced paint kit, better paints, and more variants. I'm using P3Dv3 for my main retro traffic needs 1970-2000, and all of the original FS9 AI models work just fine in that sim. I am fiddling around with some modeling, of course, but I am keeping that one under my hat for now, don't want to give out any mis-information. But, as usual, I am working on something that I have never done before, just to push myself, and I plan on it being compatible in P3Dv4 (I hope). We will see.

The lack of any new AI Tristar models makes me sad. I wish we had more options than the DWAI and CDAI models.

Actually, I am going to use this thread for a little shout-out for some advice. Does anybody know if Dee Waldron ever gave blanket permission for conversion of his models to FSX/P3D format? I enhanced his KC-97 a few years ago, actually it was my first released attempt at modeling, but I got direct permission from him to do that. As a modeler, it is far easier for me to re-model than to try to convert through MCX (some mechanics of which are still a mystery to me). I would very much like to take Dee's L-1011 and use it to do the entire L-1011 family for FSX-native, to include tankers and -500s. If anybody has any info on permissions and such, please email me direct at tj_ap97@msn.com, or respond to this post. Thanks in advance, and some TR L-1011s are coming to AVSIM by tomorrow morning, AI to follow.....

I do remember some people on Alpha India converting his models, so you can probably give it a shot, but I suggest emailing him or contacting him on facebook for confirmation.

Just uploaded 27 repaints to AVSIM in 7 files, Saudia Airlines to include pax, cargo, and Royal Flight. A mixed bag of 707s, 720Bs, and all manner of DC-8s, with FSX and FS9 lightmaps. This paint run covers the aircraft used from 1961-2001.

Is there a Saudia A300-600R in the works in the old saudia scheme? I don't think there's one available at all, just the A300B4. And what else do you have in store for us?

More SVA coming soon, the lone 727-200 lease, the Royal Flight 727-100, and L-1011s of course. I already did A300s a few years ago, but I will go back and update them to FSX standard. There are some excellent FAIB 747 paints for SVA on JB's website, but no Royal Flight or Cargo variants. So, I will do those, but I have to match the already-released ones since they are so good, and that will be a bit of work. I am going to update the 707 Royal Flight variant in current scheme, I made the tail too purple, it's more indigo, and I found a suitable color-match to work with. I have to do the same thing with my TR L-1011, so those will be coming down the pipe very shortly. I'll keep the next chapter under wraps for now :{ )

Well for one reason, Saudia never owned their own A300b4-600R aircraft, theirs were A300b4-600 models with FFCC and without wingtip. The ones youight mean came in the late 1990s and were mostly, if not all leased in from other carriers for Haji. And secondly, why don't you consider repainting them yourself? Might be appreciated as well. 😉 Kind regards.
