I think I need some help with the NWA color schemes. It looks that almost the complete fleet was sprayed in the Bowling Shoe scheme in 94. When I check airliners.net I can see very few planes in Orient colors dated "early 90's" or "mid 90's". Do you remember how the fleet looked in summer 94 or do you know of a good source to check it? airliners.net is not much of help. Growing up I spent a ton of time in MSP in the 90s as my dad's family all lives there, and I very vaguely remember the Orient scheme. There weren't many left by 94. I have a post card that's dated from 94, its an overview of the Lindbergh terminal in MSP and out of probably 40 or so NW planes in the shot, only maybe 5 or so are in the Orient colors. They were around, but in small numbers. By the end of 95 they were all gone.

I found some of our old file tape on a shelf from 97 that showed a DC-9 in the old Orient colors, but with the NW/KLM sticker.
Granted, the video definitely wasn't from 97, but it probably wasn't any older than a couple years.
I also found a promotional tape that Northwest sent to television stations that had beauty shots of their "new" colors. It had air-to-air shots of a 747-200, DC-10 and A320. The interesting thing about the early days of the Bowling Shoe colors is that the engines were originally the same color grey as the fuselage. This didn't last long however; I don't think any had the grey engines and NW/KLM stickers simultaneously.

Thanks a lot, that was really helpful.
Brian, are you talking of the grey of my engines? I did not see photos of any other engines on planes with KLM stickers.

No, I think he's talking about how in 1989 and maybe the very early 90s when the bowling shoe first came out, some 757s, A320s, DC-10s and 747s had the engines painted grey. By the time of the NWA/KLM alliance, the engines were all painted white. The DC-9s, MD-80s, and 727s all had grey engines to the end of service.

I had time to finish two more today. The DC9 is stretched to it's limits now. I remember this one from some DTW-MIA-DTW flights.

They look great Ralf. All you need to do now is drop 1 upper deck window and...instant -100! Looking at the screenshots, there's a layer of the 747s that I think got flipped off that should be on. There should be a very small NWA logo right behind doors L1 & L2. Browsing through photos from 1994, the logos should also probably be on the other aircraft too. I can only see a couple where it's not present so I think it was standard, but some might have missed it or it was peeled off. Brian

With good DC10 repaints available, the 752 are the last Bowling Shoe repaints that are missing.

Wow, eventually I got that thing running. I have to check/rework the lightmaps and test the flight plans, release should be this month.
